Smile i have an invisible computer on my home network

    Hi,

I have just bought a new computer and am trying to transfer files from my old one via my home network. My new pc has vista home premium and my old computer has xp pro.

Previously when connecting between computers on my network i had to disable 'norton internet security' and then go to command prompt and do a ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew before the other xp pro machine could see my shared files.

Yesterday after doing this for a brief while i saw my other computer and transferred some files - now i can't get it to happen again!!!!!! this is bloody frustrating

    Any ideas anyone?

If your other desktop is called "desktop1", then try

    \\desktop1\
    in your windows explorer

If that doesn't work, find out the ip address of your other desktop (i.e. 192.168.0.10)

    Then you can use
    \\192.168.0.10\
    to access that computer
