    bt home hub

    Hello,
ive got a bt home hub.
for the last few days suddenly the internet, broadband and phone light go off randomly and the internet stops until all the lights are back on.
do you think its the bt home hub?
    or is it my line?
sometimes i take the power out and put back in and it powers up fine.

i would say the hub, they are crap..

buy a cheap router its far more reliable, those hubs have always given me hassle, and there signal output is dire aswell

My first BT Hub never worked from the start. Had two weeks of ringing the help lines routed through India and two complaint emails. In the end I obtained a Complaint phone number and managed to get a BT engineer out who confirmed what I thought, that the Hub wasn't working. Now have the hub and the speed is just as per spec so in the end happy at the moment. But thanks to the 'Scream' Forum I am now sorted.

The thing i.e bb hub. Does what it's is suppose to do. ( there is faster things but 'what the hell does it matter at the end of the day) work all right if the thing or the line is ok. If you are powering the thing down and it is sorting the problem then 'report it and tell them that you think the b/b hub is faulty but report it to the b/b number so you get the broadband people not the 'india ' call centre.

I seem to have found some infomation.
when i check the interface before it disconnects it shows the connection speed as 6mb and then after a few minutes internet goes. and home hub has the start up again losing the internet connection.
but if the speed drops to e.g. 3mb then it will stay connected for days maybe even weeks.
this happerned a few weeks ago when it booted up and was on at 5mb it just cut off and had to reboot itself.
so bt is trying to give the line the best it can e.g. 5mb/6mb but the router dont like it and keeps rebooting until it gets a lower speed.
but sometimes it can stay at 6mb for a few hours then cut out again.
    so im still confused.
i might get bt to do a line check
thanks for the replys so far.

have you just moved on to 8meg?

they do say it take some time for line to set its self speed that works

that might be why you are having disconnects

No need to be confused . On max , lines takes up to -ballpark fig - 10 days to settle . If it settles at too high a level (speed) then as oc,in a pc the thingie could be unstable . Trick there is to get Bt to drop the speed a bit--.i.e. yer set to high. Better to to a wee bit slower and have stability. .

    Hello,
i have had 8mb broadband and my bthomehub for a few months.
it can stay connected at 3mb for ages with no disconnects.
i hope when bt replace all uk analogue lines with fibre cables and ethernet cables i will be able to get a faster speed.
    but 3mb isnt to bad.
