I want a good firewall/router, 4 port. Wireless nice but unimportant as the whole house is hard wired. Around £50.
What's hot & what's not? Experiences....

If he had a cable connection or a single ethernet port dsl router I would go for a WRT54G hands down, but as the requirement is for a modem/router have a look here, at a few consumer reviews:
http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/...rs-reviews.asp
Overall the DG834 doesn't seem to fair well mate.
Beer is life, life is good!
get the wrt54gl and a ethernet modem![]()
Agree.
You can pick up a cheap ADSL Ethernet modem from Ebay if you're willing
The WRT54 will offer more control than you could ever want when flashed with one of the many open-source firmwares.
Im personally not a fan of Netgear stuff, have always had issues with them. Wireless and Syncing being the main issues.
If you want to stick with the DG834G, there are tons on Ebay that are referbs. You need to ask why there are so many referbs though(They have been on there for months and months and months from the same sellers)
Would you consider going cheaper?
This is my current favourite 4 port NAT firewall ADSL router.
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=442869 It's £21.61. Inc Vat.
I spoke about it here http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=101871
and it is bombproof. It even worked on my mates AOL ADSL line.
I would look hard at it, cos it's good. Period.
