    WRT54g problem

About twice a week, the router drops all connection to the internet, wired and wireless. The wireless and wired connection between the PC's and router is still there, but it takes a full reset of factory settings to get any internet connection back.

This is one of the rubbish wrt54g that doesnt accept the fancy firmware.

Do you think I'm better off returning it and getting a different type? It was less than £20, but this cant be right, having to reset it every few days?

This isn't an answer to fixing the problem, but if you RMA'd it, you can get a WRT54GL for just under £40. I got that one and put the DD-RWT firmware on it with no probs.

    My System: Coolermaster Centurion 5 (black) case, Intel E6750 Core2Duo, Tagan Easy-Con 530W, Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI, OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC, Samsung SpinPoint 200Gb SATA2 / 2 x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200Gb SATA, 256Mb Sapphire ATI PCI-E X1950PRO, Creative X-Fi Xtreme 7.1, 19" Daewoo W9ZQ Black Widescreen TFT, 4Mb Virgin Cable Broadband (formerly Blueyonder) with Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G and DD-WRT firmware.

Hmm is it running the latest firmware??? Also I thought even the latest VX vers. could be persuaded to run a form of DD-WRT.

    *EDIT* http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owb...?WRT54G5%5FCFE (instructions on flashing v5 & v6 WRT54G)

Finally as Dannyboy says the WRT54GL can be had from ebuyer for about £34 inc Google Checkout discount.

on my GL, I had to (or was instructed to) flash with the Micro version. I then flashed over this with the full version.

That's true but on V5 & 6 of G's & GS' you can't flash to the full version because it physically doesn't have enough room in the flash memory. I think it's only 2mb in size, where as ours is 4mb, so you can only use the micro version and that's it.

Get the GL if you can, I have a pair of older G's (both 1.1's) they are THAT good with a 3rd party f/w.
