    Virgin Media

    Hey,

About 3 months ago i started getting this problem with my connection which I emailed VM about yet they chose to ignore my email, since then I have gotten back in contact with them via the phone, since its harder to ignore someone on the phone.

Basically my internet disconnects randomly, so when playing a game I get thrown out. This happens daily most at 01:25 am.

A tech guy came out who quite frankly did what I can do and wasnt very technical. 192.168.100.1 he typed that into my browser. Which I did and gave the guys on the phone that info when I phoned up. Anyway apparently my signal levels are fine, he told me to wait 2 weeks. Ok 2 weeks for what I thought, anyway had an argument with tech support and customer services about it.

Basically I was wondering if you guys had any idea what this from the error log means?
*DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response.
    *No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out.
*Init RANGING Critical Ranging Request Retries exhausted

I've been told its solved with a replacement modem or replacement cable in the street?
I have contact Ofcom because I think I have given a fair chance for them to fix the problem and they told me to wait 24 hours, its the same!

call retentions and make sure that you pay as little as possible for such rubbish service.

I'm about to call them, because they have yet again messed up on demand. This time I don't really want money off to stay - just want to get away from them.

For 2 weeks I had a problem that everytime I went online, within 5 minutes it would disconnect. If I rebooted the PC it wouldn't reconnect. I had to reset the modem to get back online. After 5 minutes, off again.

2 weeks of calls to them complaining of this problem and they kept saying "It's your PC, there's nothing wrong our end". OK, but my laptop has the same problem "We Don't support networks". It's not on a network, they're both stand alone PC's "We don't support networks". Eventually, after a dozen or so tech calls I got an answer as to what it was. Somone local to me had a router that was using my assigned IP for the network. As a result, everytime my modem logged on, it was told "You're already online" and promptly cut off.

They were so rude and unhelpful it was quite offensive.

I gotta say the guys on there are pretty good and very helpful, nor do they bull***t.
They have helped me out on a few occasions each time with success.

doesn't sound right - VM use dynamic IPs & the modem is permanently logged on - at least for cable, are you on DSL?

Got a proformer reply from them. Shouting at me in terms of internet speak "WE'RE SORRY YOU ARE UNHAPPY!" So they obviously have a lot of complaints to have proformer letters to be sent out! Anyway they have told me they will be in touch with me within 10 days, lets see if they hold true to that promise. Something tells me I don’t actually want them to since I can take it further then and see what actually happens when I do! Since it’s very annoying especially since I am studying with the OU and not having the internet when I’m trying to do an online course is what annoying!

A little off topic, but Branson has nothing to do with this venture - Telewest/NTL acquired the brand name when they bought Virgin Mobile.

From Cableforums I read that he is still the largest shareholder though.

I also heard that he is indeed getting slightly miffed that NTL have already reverted to their old ways and are trashing the Virgin brand.

Leopards and spots comes to mind! Telewest had cr@p support years ago for their phone service and threatened to cut off a phone that wasn't connected! NTL aren't much better so what could VM expect?

I will steer clear of them as the small print - and there is a lot of it - is enough reason for me.
