1 PC 2 NICS. 1 for wan 1 for lan

Hey ppl,

I have my main rig which has 2 nics in it.

One of the nics is connected to the ROuter downstairs.

THe other nic I have a crossover cable plugged in so I can connect my laptop and copy files accross to it quickly.

THe problem I Have is that when I turn on the second nic and connect up my Laptop my main rig loses net connection.

I`ve tried putting both on separate subnets and using separate ip ranges for each card but the problem continues.

Has anyone got any ideas of how I could set this up. MY main rig uses win xp PRO and my laptop is using windows vista Ultimate.

You aren't putting default gateways on both cards are you?.

GO to start-run and type CMD
type route print and post the result here when your net conenction doesn't work.

Doh now there was the problem lol.

I had put a default gateway on both cards.

Removed the one from the secondary nnix and I`m now posting with the laptop plugged in
