    Router with QoS recommendation

    Hi guys

D-link used to/do make a router for gamers that automatically prioritised latency sensitive traffic (VoIP, games etc) while de-prioritising bandwidth hogging traffic (Torrents).

I can't find the cheaper of the 2 products they made anywhere, and the more expensive one is WAAAYYY more expensive.

Do other manufacturers do something similar? The nice thing about the D-link was that it appeared to do all of this pretty much automatically.

I'm on Virgin Media so I only need a router not one with an ADSL modem.

    Thanks in advance

The Linksys WRT54GL will do QoS. I'm not sure if you need a third party firmware on it or not to get the QoS - I've had Sveasoft on mine since day one so didn't look through the stock firmware options.

I have a Linksys WRT54GS using the Tomato firmware - seems very stable and simple to use - also has the QoS features.

Another vote for the Linksys WRT54GL, this time with DD-WRT firmware. I run three of these on my home network and they are fantastic.

P.S. If you hurry you can get them dirt cheap from Ebuyer with the £10 Google Checkout discount which finishes on the 11th.

    Re: Router with QoS recommendation

Thanks for the feedback I finally got this last week.

I have been having NAT problems with it, particularly with Azereus.

I have forwarded the ports correctly I'm pretty sure and no joy. TEllingly even if i put my PC in the DMZ I still have the issue. I'd be inclined to blame my ISP, but it worked fine previously, with my other router.

I am still using the newest Linksys Firmware and haven't loaded any custom ones yet. Has anyone else had this issue?

make sure you have the most recent firmware, enable UPnP and see if that helps

    Re: Router with QoS recommendation

Bit late now, but I would have recommended the Draytek 2800 series - latest firmware has added lots of new QoS options, particularly with respect to bit torrent applications... Still, good luck with the Linksys.

Drayteks are FANTASTIC! but I also think they cost a bit more than a WRT54G

I don't bother with Linksys firmware, always go straight for DD-WRT so I afraid I can't help.

I do and I have, I honsetly can't understand why it's not working, if the machine is in the DMZ it should be outside the firewall.

Have you got any firewalls installed in your PC?

    Re: Router with QoS recommendation

D-Link still do QoS routers. The DIR-655 will do it, and I'm sure other will to.
