Check your computer time, date, year and location. It causes about 90% of MSN login problems.

I get the same error message if I have my password saved. If I manually enter my password each time I connect then it's fine but if I save the password and try to connect I get this error.

What I do when WLM isn't working is to try Pidgin and see if I can connect with that. If I can, then WLM is maybe borked or the firewall has blocked it. If Pidgin doesn't work either then it suggests that MSN might be down so I go online and check out some forums I visit and see loads of "OMGZ is MSN down?!".

Normally its my firewall being silly that causes me that problem.

also check webmessenger and if you can log in fine there, it may be a firewall blocking it issue

If you are running ZoneAlarm, then uninstall it (or disable it from starting, AND kill the services) and try.
Should that solve your problem, dump it and get a better firewall [here come the flames]. Its a known issue from a quick google
