I believe that NTL/Virgin Media use dynamic IP addressing, so rebooting your router a couple of times should gain you a new IP. Why do you want to change it, out of interest?
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
If you're having problems your ISP might release the IP before it's due to expire, but usually you just wait until the lease expires... and then there's a chance you'll pick up the same one again... depends on how the DHCP server hands out IPs (LIFO/FIFO/other).
Wasn't it a case in the past that you could just not use your internet for 24 hours (keep the line completely dead) and when you reconnected the DHCP server would assign a new IP addy for you? I have seen this suggested numerous times around the web.
I'm pretty sure Virgin are using NTL in my case, and there's no lease time at all - I get a new IP each time.
No router here. Just the bog standard Modem!
