Well..interleaving ideally should be OFF as that is just a method to reduce the effect of errors in the circuit, but you actually mean RS errors...these can be numerous if Interleaving is on.

But CRC and HEC errors are bad news...certainly if they are in their thousands.

As a rough guide there are about 10Db to a Kilometer.

Also, your line is not stable...it's unstable...look at all the CRC and HEC errors.

If you were on a regular up to 8Meg circuit you would be getting 8Meg and my kit would tell me your max rate would be around 9200Kbps.

Because you are on ADSL2+ your speed should be around 18Mbps.

Buy self adjusting, you have induced errors in your circuit.

When the winter comes, you may find you will be getting dropouts.

If you get too many CRC or HEC errors within a given amount of time, your router will automatically reboot.

Because it is such a fast circuit, you probably wont notice the effect of the errors, but they are there.

Your SNR margin of 1.5 is really poor. Do you know what this is?
It is a margin of SAFETY above the point where the DSL will fail...so...lets hope you don't get any REIN issues or, temperature fluctuations.
I know you have set this yourself, but that is too low.
Yeah thanks for that... do u have a problem with me or something? So i don't know the full ins and outs of ADSL technology... however my connection is stable as in i dont get disconnected, at time of writing i have been connected for 12 hours after a resync, previous to that the connection was going for 3 days so go figure sure seems stable to me.

BTW i am aware that my SNR is very low however as i said my connection does not have any problems with connection drops. None that are noticeable to me, so imho its not a problem as i can play online, download and the other half can browse the web without any problem.

EDIT:
My stats now i have set the modem settings to default SNR ratio

Uptime: 0 days, 0:01:39
Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,304 / 20,053
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 111.00 / 250.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 23.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / µ
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 287 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 618 / 0

Skeet what would you recommend my minimum SNR to be, i would think 3dB from what i have seen on other forums.

Was playing online, surfing the web, so painfully slow before your "tweaked" your broadband?

Do I have a problem with you? Not at all.

You wont get disconnected unless it gets really bad,. but your running yours on its last legs.

So, you haven't tweaked it for performance, you have tweaked it to the point where it's going wrong...running in the red if you like.

So, I'm not having a go at you at all, but...you are fiddling around with things, that you clearly know little about.

That isn't a problem in itself, but the idea of tweaking things, is to optimize them, not take them to the point that they start going wrong.

If you don't know what those Errors mean, or what the other numbers mean...how can you tweak it up?

All I am doing, is giving you a bit of a pointer, as to your current setup.

Ok, I will admit that I find it mildly annoying, in a humorous way, that you come on here boasting about your very fast broadband connection (and it is, no question) but, what you don't realise is what you have done, besides raise the line speed.

So when the weather gets colder, do yourself a favour and up that SNR a bit or it will drop out...

Well thanks for the advice, i do appreciate someone explaining things to me, even if it is done in a mildly patronising manner...

As for the boasting, i don't see that what i have written is boasting, this is a post about the Beunlimited isp and i was showing people that after being switched to their fastpath service my speed increased, i then recommended others to do the same, a number of other people have posted their speeds so im guessin we are all guilty of boasting about our speeds?!?

Have you read the whole thread?

I also gave warning to those wishing to use the DMT tool to 'tweak' their connection that lowering SNR would cause instability, i may not know exactly what it does i am aware of the consequences of having it too low. Next time read the whole thread rather than just picking it up half way through.

I'm not bothering to touch the DMT settings and stuff like that.

Remember the old adage of the tortoise and the hare?

I reckon I'm better off with the speeds as they are with no transmit and recieve errors as opposed to a faster line, and errors

Also, I was downloading a few live DJ promotional sets so they are okay to be torrented and while doing this the Squeezebox was streaming and the xbox was still connected to live with no stuttering and slowdown.

Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Anyone know of a good replacement router to the thompson be box ?

I'm sick of it crashing on a daily basis, locking up and requiring a hard reboot due to the wireless being flakey as hell and crashing the router when a few devices are connected.

I am considering replacing it too. There seem to be too many slow downs to be just the internet or the sites I am visiting.

Is it just the wireless which is duff? I've just ordered Be and now I'm getting worried! Can't you just plug in your old wireless/router to the Be box and use it purely as a router?

You can. Just plug the cable from a switched port (usually between 1 and 3) from the Bebox, and turn off DHCP on your current wifi router. Leave wireless security settings as they are, done.

Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Yes, I've been playing over the weekend when I've not been opening a beer bottle or trying to prise the xbox controller from my mates hand.

Wireless enabled - The router seems to get toasty quite quickly and after a while, especially if there is a lot of TCP/IP connections it just seems to lock up and you can still gain access to the admin page on 192.168.1.254 to check everything, but if you press "RESTART" within here, the router reboots and then just stalls.

Wireless Disabled - Works better and is not as prone to locking up as much as when wireless is on, but then I cannot connect the squeezebox or my 360 to the web

I am in the process of looking into a replacement router to replace the Be Box, and I'm emailing a few suppliers to see if they know of any routers which support the Be Setup.

So far I've heard that the DG834N works fine so I may invest in one of these

I know it possible technically, I mean, would that fix the stability problems? Is it just the wireless causing the flakiness?

Don't be worried - it is INSANELY fast and on the first few days of being connected I was sat giggling like a schoolkid again when various downloads were coming down at speeds over 1.5 Mb/s

What router you got at the moment ?

If you've got an ADSL2+ supporting router then the following settings might work to allow you to use your existing router on Be ;

Code:
Select ETHoA or Routed Ethernet over ATM or 1483 Bridged connection
There is no login information required
Encapsulation : LLC
VPI : 0
VCI : 101
MTU: 1500

I hope this helps

Mines not insanely fast. All I have is a measly 3.5mbps ... Line attenuation on mine is ridiculously high for less than 2m from exchange. The attenuation is indicative of a line distance of over 5m.

The builders of the block of flats probably skimped out on wiring when they built it.

Re: BeThere.co.uk - Wow

Thats the problem with ADSL.

Have a good line and your connection is fantastic, yet have a problematic line with SNR issues and whatnot, and you have to scream blue murder to BT inorder to get them to do anything as they have an agreement that if the line supports over a certain speed then there is not much they can do.

Ask Skeet - He's an engineer and as such knows more about ADSL than I do

The problem is with BT, who do not want to make real investment into the network to get things into the current century.

I am getting 3.5 constant speed, so I guess I should be happy that I am atleast getting that much. I doubt there is anything I could get to do as I dont think I have a noisy line or anything. Just a crap routing or crap connections within the building.

If I had access to Virgin Broadband over cable, the chances are I would have gone with that. I have seen problems reported with them, but they do deliver the speed.
