    Sky BB in Glasgow (Scotstoun)?

Well, it seems that Virgin don't wish to continue the discounts that I enjoyed meaning that they want to charge me £41 for services that I can get from Sky for £26 ...

So, I'm looking at changing but anyone know how good their BB is here (I'm supposedly 700m from the exchange as the crow flies although how long the cables actually are is another thing entirely)?

Don't know about their BB but according to colleague at work who has friends working for them their support isn't good. Have you looked at talktalk?

Scott, apologies for not getting back to you regarding upstream power levels, i've been ultra busy these past few weeks.
My parents are also in a similar situation to yourself, having been refused the deal that they have been getting, with the staff member citing "We are now part of VM and cant offer these deals" as an excuse. After almost 10 years of nearly top-notch service from ntl, we're saying goodbye. On top of this, we're going to have to pay £60 to get the phone line reconnected to BT.
    Hooray!
Let me know what you decide to do, as my folks are looking for suggestions
    Cheers!!

From talking to some people who have Sky broadband the comments range from "utter crap" to "absolutely fantastic!" with just about everything else inbetween.

I know a few people who got connected and haven't had any problems. Equally I know a few people who have never been connected despite what Sky say. One guy has been without broadband for 3 months. It's not a huge problem because like me he works abroad a lot but it's a bit inconvenient.

It seems to be that when it works it works well but when you start needing tech support you're in trouble.

They were a bit poor with me, in that they wait until after your broadband is connected before they send out the modem, so I had a week where my broadband was active, but I couldn't use it.

I was not amused. It also gets a bit slow at times in the evenings, to the extent I wish I had stayed with Zen. Unfortunately I have to stick with them for a year.

At least the modem is decent, a Netgear DG834GT, even if it is locked down by Sky and you can't use anybody elses (officially).

    Cheers,
    Stephen

At least I still have a BT line (although I'm surprised that they are charging you to reconnect).

Spoke to Sky in Livingstone today - apparently although the Scotstoun exchange is unbundled (& you must be virtually on top of it as I'm only 700m from it ) it's also at their capacity limit so until they increase that they can only offer the £17 Connect rather than £5 Mid service.
Whether VM know this & hence are sticking to their guns I don't know but it does change the equation a bit ...
Now looking at Be & Madasafish too as they seem to do well in speed & CS polls.

On the other hand if I decide to go Skyplus it's £99 as opposed to £150 for the V+ which supposedly has slower menus etc.
