    lnksys router problems

    hello all,

i've got a linksys wrk54g which works nicely with either my pc, my flatmate's laptop or my mac. but when she connects on a windows laptop i can't connect on my mac laptop and vice versa.

i'm a little lost as this is my first go with wireless networking having used cables for the last 6 years!

the firmware seems up to date: version 1.56.01

    any suggestions?

What do you mean by you can't connect? Do you lose the connection totally to the wireless network? If not, do you still have an IP address? Can you ping the router? Are you using static IP addresses on the machines?

automatic ip on both machines and the router.

each time i can still see and log on to the network but if i do it with the mac first the pc has 'limited or no connectivity' and if i do it with the pc first the mac will connect to the network but not the internet.

edit: the pc still has an ip - 192.168.1.122 even though it won't connect

What IP does the Mac get when it connects? I don't think both machines are being assigned the same IP as you'd get a different message but just wanna check.

What wireless settings have you got on the router? Is it set to B/G/B+G?

    Re: lnksys router problems

mac gets this when i type ifconfig in to terminal:
    inet 192.168.1.139 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.1.255

not sure which is the ip as i've never gone through this on a mac, it's pretty new for me.

router is mixed B+G wireless on channel 11 - 2.467 GHz

suddenly they're both working but this issue happens every day so finding out why would be good!

thanks for the help so far.

192.168.1.139 is the IP that the Mac is getting.

I'm kinda stumped to be honest. Try changing the mode and channel of the wireless interface on the router. I can't see why it would make any difference but it's got to be worth a try.

    Re: lnksys router problems

    will do.

i remember a friend having a similar problem a while ago and i've seen a few posts on the linksys forums saying the same but they're never offered solutions.

fingers crossed it'll keep working but i doubt it after the last few days of dropping.

i'll change it to 'g' only and a different channel and see how it goes.

    thanks
