    ADSL USB modem and IE7

    Hi
I wonder if someoen can help with something thats been puzzling me.
Went to a friends house and she could no longer get on line. The installation is XP/ IE6 with a USB speedtouch USB ADSL modem.
On Clicking IE6 the modem connects fine and reprts connected to BT bradband but IE6 just times out.
IE6 internet options - connections shows the correct (BT braodband) link.
How can you be connected but IE6 wont work. Is there something elese that links the two ive missed.
    Kev
