    Ethernet modem

I'm after a new modem because I can't find a adsl/router with 10/100/1000 on it I need to get a ethernet modem instead so what one do you lot recommend

    DLink DSL-320T

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=487757

    or

    Netgear DM111P

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...115&subcat=418

Or is there any other that I should be looking at or are there any problems/faults with these ?

Either I'm missing something or that item does not have a adsl modem built in ?

    Nope, you're not missing anything.

Last time I looked the only option I found for an ADSL router with GigE ports was a D-Link something-or-other but I've just had a look and can't find it.

Why don't you go for an ADSL router and seperate GigE switch? In theory it'll be less problematic than having an ethernet ADSL modem + router.

    Re: Ethernet modem

I would like an all in one job but I can't seem to find one so I was thinking of a ethernet modem and maybe getting a switch later on.

So what is the point of having a motherboard with 2 gigabyte lan connections when you can only get ADSL router with 10/100

Oh it must be Vista compatible, as vista only likes ethernet modems and not USB ones.

    Re: Ethernet modem

An all in one would be great but given the choice between Ethernet modem + 10/100/1000 router or 10/100 router + 10/100/1000 switch I'd go with the latter as I've had problems in the past with ethernet ADSL modems beign somewhat flaky. I'd expect it to be slightly cheaper that way too.

Vista or not, USB is an awful way of networking. Ethernet all the way

    Re: Ethernet modem

You aint helping me decide burble

I see if I can find some more reviews to read up on before deciding, but I do like the idea of a ethernet modem and using a switch on my second lan connection

    Re: Ethernet modem

So you're thinking about plugging the ethernet modem into one of ethernet ports on your PC and then sharing your internet connection through the other ethernet port on your PC? It'll work but personally I'd get fed up having to have a certain PC turned on all the time for any others to get internet access.

You may find things like port forwarding a bit more complicated when you're running ICS. TBH, it isn't worth the hassle.

Most reliable ethernet modems that I've found are Draytek Vigor 100s - see HERE.

    Why do you want 1000?
What do you do that maxes out your current 100Mbit?
You do realise that your HD's will reach their trasnfer limit well before 1000Mbit?
