More slow wifi - BT HomeHub + Asus wl-138g v2

I have a BT HomeHub plugged into my 2meg internet connection. I have a new pc with Vista 64 and an Asus wl-138g v2. I can connect (most of the time) but the internet is incredibly slow.

I tried moving the pc next to the Hub and that didnt appear to work, also my sister can connect to the Hub with her laptop with no problems so I dont think its a problem with the Hub/signal.

    Any thoughts?

If your sister can connect fine then I'd be looking at new drivers for your wireless card or failing that a new card.

Re: More slow wifi - BT HomeHub + Asus wl-138g v2

Can drivers cause slow a slow connection? If I can connect at all I thought that would mean the card is ok and theres a firewall setting or something that i need to change...no idea where to start though.

I am new to wireless networks though so ^ is probably complete rubbish.

When I installed the driver I did get a message saying 'The program might not have installed correctly', giving me options 'Reinstall using recommended settings' or 'The program is installed correctly'. I think I tried both because I had trouble getting it to work at all and which one I chose didnt make any difference as far as I could tell.

Yep, drivers can cause that sort of problem. Also just because you can connect doesn't mean that the card isn't faulty - I had to get the wireless card in my laptop replaced a couple of weeks back because I was having throughput problems.

I think that fact that you got an error message when installing the driver should tell you that there's a problem there.

Also, are you using Windows to manage the wireless connection or does the card have a utility of its own? Try using the Windows Zero Configuration tool and see if that makes any difference.

Re: More slow wifi - BT HomeHub + Asus wl-138g v2

I took the card out, reinstalled the drivers, popped it back in and it appears to be working now. I did still get the error message when installing the driver though. Hopefully itll keep working anyway...

    Thanks for your help burble.
