How can I persuade my parents that this is a rip off when the 600K service is £7 more per month?
by offering to pay the extra £7? i managed to persuade dad we needed 1mb rather than 512k and paid the difference for the first month (£10), then he completely forgot about it :)

I've offered to pay the extra... Lol
i'm 17 and managed to get my mum to sign up to the 150k bb service but i had to pay for it and it had to come out of my bank, after 3 months i checked all the ntl bills we had and none said how much the bb was costing so i upgraded to the 600k over the internet without telling my mum. so maybe you could upgrade and see if they notice the xtra money been taken out, if they do all they need to do is call ntl to downgrade and then shout at you.
well my way was a little more honest but that could work to :)

Oh they'll notice.
My dad doesn't seem to mind, it's just my mum doesn't want "more money going on the ever increasing bill"... Stupid NTL and their prices  :p
Just offer to pay the difference ... Looks like I'll be paying the difference when we upgrade from 1Mbps Cable to 2Mbps DSL tho :(
If NTL would get their finger out, they would have plenty of 2mb customers .. like DSL and Blueyonder :(
I hate them.. I called today and was told "we have no current plans to launch a 2mb service" *sigh*
Just don't say "It won't be much faster than a modem - we should just stay on dialup".... WHATEVER you do. I'm serious. You could, however, use the "I know more than you, so shut your cakehole and listen to me" route. I'm seriously strict when it comes to those kind of decisions with my household, because I, of course, know best. Best interests > Being ripped off, regardless of cost.
you only need >150k if you download stuff tbh - i download the odd file but 150k is fine for games/browsing
I download stuff. An awful lot of stuff. Hence my need for it :)

well be glad you're on 150k like me. you will have difficulty downloading over a gigabyte a day (possible via ftp, less so via p2p) and that's the ntl cap. well, they don't cap it as such, but you may get a nasty aup (acceptable use policy) violation letter.Quote:

Unis restrict their connections to basic HTTP and FTP access, so things like BitTorrent are out of the question ;)
I won't be going to uni anyway I doubt.
I'm offering to pay the difference, so we'll see how they react sooner or later :)
