    Question ADSL Synchronisation

    Hi all,

My belkin wireless modem had decided that it no longer wants to sync with my adsl line. The little green adsl light keeps on flashing. However my Speedtouch ADSL modem works perfectly with and my internet speed remains about 3.5mb solid throughout the day. I have taken the modem to a friends house and tried the belkin modem their and it still does not sycn.

I have spoken to belkin tech support, and after telling me to reset my modem five times they told me to get a 'whoosh test' and 'line noise test' done by my isp. Does anyone know what these tests are?

I think there is something wrong with the modem or possibly the line. I have had a brand new line installed in my house as my last one was causing issues. Just to make it clear the belkin modem was not synchronising with the old line aswell as the new one.

I personally think its the modem but has anyone else had this problem before?

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

Well a woosh test is a test that can only be done by BT at the request of your service provider ,basicly it looks right through to your router etc , can show state of line speed etc various other things sig /to noise upload/download data etc i.e. state of line. The other test --line noise test , well that could be a straight dc test i.e. auto line test. If your other modem/router is working ok then I would agree with you that your primary modem is either faulty or in need of a 'software reset'. Remember every modem/router will give a different reading because half or 3/4 of them are crap.

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

If you get 3.5Mb with the speedtouch, you should get some sort of sync with the Belkin, even if it didn't like the line as much.

Sounds like the Belkin's got a problem, can you either "factory reset" it, which should be in the manual, or flash it with new firmware, and then rebuild the config?

It's work checking the config anyway, in case it's lost its settings and has defaulted to an invalid configuration. If the config's good and it's still not working, do Belkin still offer a lifetime warranty?

    The model is-

    F5D7632-4
    Version1000uk

Its a 'ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router'

I forgot to mention the guy at Belkin Tech told me that noise level has to be less then 40db. But after reading s_kinton link, it should be less then 40db as I am getting a 3.5mb service.

I ahve tried factory reset and updating the firmware, both made no difference. I might try again though.

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

    Sounds like its borked.

Speedtouch working I guess indicates that as well as the Belkin not working at your friends either.

Uve tried all the obvious stuff with firmware, resets etc, I dont think the tests will do a lot for you from BT unless you are v.keen to try and get the Belkin working.......

Whats ure line distance from the exchange ?

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

I'm not very keen on the belkin, but since its got lifetime warranty, I do want a replacement

I don’t have a good record with belkin, the modem I currently have is the fourth one they have given me in the last two and half years. The previous modems had various other issues.

I live approximately 2km from the exchange.

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

You shouldn't have any problems being that distance.

I had a Belkin for about 2 months. Kept dropping the line and not resynching, but I am 5.5km from the exchange. Took it back to PC World twice and eventually got a refund.

Now using a Speedtouch 585V6 - no probs.

40dB? That'd exclude most people if that's their maximum!!

My reflashed BT Business Hub gives me 2Mb on a 63dB line, with a SNr of 6.

According to guy at belkin tech it has to be 'less then 40db' otherwise it wont sync.

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

Ok i think i should imput here. I ahve the same router and have been having problems with my adslmax. BT was here today doing line checks and told me that my line is perfect with as full a sync as anyone could expect. But that its my router thats the problem. It is sending errors. So he gave me and new router for free

    Netgear lol

    In otherwords try another router.

tbh my experience of Belkin technical support was crap.

Another router for sure would prove whether its faulty or not.

I'd never buy another Belkin product again........

    It is still crap.

However I am going to ring them again as I still want a replacement, which I will then sell on ebay.

    Re: ADSL Synchronisation

Good news, just spoke to a nice guy at belkin tech, and he told me that its probably the router thats causing the problem. Anyhow hes started my rma process and I should hopefully get a replacement soon.

If the replacement works I'll probably keep it until it goes wrong again.

BigFatCat, forgot to answer your last question, belkin still offer lifetime warranty.
