    Momento Frame Networking

My Momento photo frame connects to my wireless network, and when it is connected to a PC running Windows Media Player 11, it shows the pictures stored on the PC.
I'd like it to 'see' pictures stored on my network when my PC isn't turned on. Some sort of self-contained network storage device would be ideal. I have seen a number of devices that can act as media servers and even run BitTorrent clients, but nothing that specifically mentions the Momento anywhere.
The frame looks good but without a running PC, it's wireless functions are useless without paying a subscription. Even then, the subscription services are clumsy. Ideally, the solution should be fairly simple eg. copying files to a folder on the network storage device makes them available to the Momento.
I need some sort of network storage anyway so I thought I'd ask if anyone had any ideas.
Is there a way to serve photographs to a Momento via a wireless network without a running PC?
    Take care,
    Andy.

Any NAS device is esentialy a low powered PC server (usually running some flavour of Linux) anyway. HP have just released a new Microsoft Windows Home Server based SmartMedia server that will allow this to work with your picture frame I am betting.

And at this price it seems like a good solution that I will probably use in one way or another.

    Thanks.
I'm going to try something along those lines although I think a server is overkill for now. At that price, though, it's tempting. I'm hoping to find a NAS device that 'runs' WMC. The reliance of so many gadgets on WMP11 is annoying.
I'm not sure what support Home Server has for wireless. I've heard little to nothing. I know wired networks have advantages but laying 100s metres of cable is a non-starter for me.

    Re: Momento Frame Networking

The point is a NAS device is a small server. Windows Home Server (WHS OEM software is now available...maybe only through reseller channels at present for £75+VAT) can also be a small efficient server (you will see lots of devices come to market soon). The HP Windows Home Server (WHS) product which will be one of the first of these has an ethernet port (as they all will) so it hooks into your home network and if you have a wireless access point or wireless router then it will work with wireless clients too. That said wireless pretty much sucks for media streaming. The best solution these days is Homeplug technology and it is finally getting affordable.

This is the best value kit at less than £50 for two devices.

    http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=4744

You need two to start with one to plug into your router (or hub/switch) and one for the device(s) you want to plug in.

Then only another £25 for additonal outlets for other PC's etc. (or buy them in twos in the starter packs)

Its Easy. I did one recently and it works and is dead simple.

Note: The 85Mbps and 14Mps Homeplug are standards and run OK across brands. The 200Mbps version is not usually backward or forward compatible with these older versions.
