    Firewalls............

Have recentley bought a new lappie which tends to be a bit unreliable with its wireless net connection.
I think it may be that I am running too many firewalls

I have XP Service pack 2 Windows firewall on my main 'wired' PC
Mcafee Firewall on My Vista Laptop
    Netgears Firewall on My DG834N

Sould I turn off the two software firewalls and rely on the Router firewall - and if answer to that is yes do I need to do anything with the firewall settings or just make allowances when needed?

I really struggle with firewalls for some reason

    Thnx for any advice guys.

    Re: Firewalls............

At home you can turn off the software firewalls (asuming you 'trust' all the computers on your home network). Keep one installed on the laptop and turn it on if you connect to any foreign networks.

On a side note, my housemate just has a new Dell Vista laptop and the wireless is a bit unreliable...

    Re: Firewalls............

Vista's wireless handling (IMO) is truly utterly dreadful, to be sure. @ OP, I rather suspect that it's more to do with that than McAfee. If you do intend to turn off the firewall on your Vista laptop, I'd make certain that I had WPA enabled for the wireless network.
