    Thanks for that guys...

    Reliability is key too, as in i don't want a ISP that continually goes down, like AOL.

    What are Be like for that?

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    Can I just ask how you access AOL? If you buy any router, or use the wireless router that AOL give you, enter in all your settings (getting instructions and the info you need off the web for the settings etc) you will be suprised at how much better the connection is!

    All the problems we had with AOL were software related. As soon as I used the router (after inputting the settings - again without using their software) everything worked perfectly since. No dropped connection, decent speeds and no problems to speak of. We only moved away because my dad could get significantly cheaper BT broadband. Be* is really nice (we have it at our student house) and again is great speed with no problems, although we have had to reboot the router a few times due to some problems.

    But before you do change, ring up AOL (they were able to offer us 8Mb unlimited for £9.99 a month) and request a free wireless router as well. As they aren't so bad (amazinginly the pings i had when gaming were lowest on AOL than on Be* or Namesco (last years student property).

    Let us know what you do

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    A bit annoying to see that Be have changed their value package so radically though. Was looking forward to getting it as my sister has BeLite and says its great, but when I checked the website today its now changed to BeValue, going from:

    24MB speed;
    4 Gig usage (plus £5 per additional 5Gig);
    No contract;

    to:

    8MB speed;
    Unlimited usage;
    12 month contract.

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    But realisitcally how quickly would that 4Gb cap be used?

    I think the change they made is better, i.e. it is better value for the majority, especially as most people won't even be able to get 8mb...
    If it wasn't for the 12 month contract we would have gone for be value, currently on be unlimited getting 12mb speeds. But think of it from a business persepective they have to have taht minimum contract (hell a lot of other providers ask for 18month now) otherwise it would be so expensive to maintain customers etc.

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    I think the change is good and bad man

    1. if you sync at 24mb - 4gb is pretty small for that
    2. 100% you wont sync at 24mb anyways...
    3. no cap means at least the cap is not 4gb (although doesn't mean it isn't 40gb) at least there is alot more allowance
    4. the only crap thing is the lock in

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    (Un)fortunately I live right next to the exchange, so would get top speeds, and don't download anywhere near that much in a month, plus paying an extra fiver if I went over would suit me fine, as the next package they offer with 24MB speed is £24. I understand its good for most people though, I'm just miffed that I was too late for BeLite! The contract is the biggest problem, and they've also sneaked in a £24 connection fee. Also a bit disappointed because I thought that with their BeLite deal, others may be forced to follow suit if Be started to steal their business, but nevermind eh...

    Re: What ISP should i go for?

    they have to recover the cost of the Be Box & in many cases the cost of BT enabling the line (costs almost double the £24 that Be charge afaik) over & above providing the service & at £14 pm that's going to take a while.
