Request for help with broadband setup - VERY slow DLs

    Evening all.

I've just connected our household up to Orange 8mb broadband. There's 3 PCs in the flat, 2 laptops which have connected with builtin centrino kit and my desktop which is using an Asus 802.11g wireless network card.

All computers seem to be uploading info just fine. The 2 laptops seem to be downloading just fine. But my desktop is having all kinds of problems with downloads, and holding a connection in general. I've moved a laptop into the same place as my desktop's aerial, which worked fine, so I know it's not the quality of the signal. It's generally glued at VG or excellent.

I'm at a bit of a loss, so anything that anyone could suggest would be great. Thanks all!

    a few thoughts

can you check if everything is running 802.11g rather than 802.11b - one slow device will impact the others - a pity if you wanted to hook up say a Nintendo wii or DS.

worth considering setting the router / wifi device to g-only.

I have found using cards with different manufacturers / chipsets occasionally problematic (I suspect like many standards it's not 100&#37.

An interesting test would be to try another wifi card / dongle in desktop.

It's pretty much always worth checking you have the latest stable drivers in all the devices.
