I haven't got the WiFi Max, but I'm pretty sure that it just makes your computer into a wireless access point for your nintendo ds. That means your computer must already have an internet connection, and you can install the wifi max to allow you to play your ds online.

If you already have a wireless router then you don't need it.

    Re: Nintendo DS WiFi

You can only connect the DS to the net using a wifi connection. So you will need to be in a place that has a wifi network, and that would give you the necessary details to connect. Additionally you'll need the Nintendo DS Browser to surf the net and check emails.
