Two networks, how do I get Steam to connect through only one?

Basically, I have two networks. Uni Network and 3G network. Uni Network is restricted to three ports or something though, email, internet and ftp I think.

So to auth steam games I have to connect through my phones 3G. This works fine if the uni network is unplugged, but I cant be arsed every time, and there are other things I want to run outside the normal internet too.

Is it possible to set these applications to run exclusively through my 3G network connection? They're named 'Network' and 'Network 2', so I just need to give an instruction to Windows, that when Steam.exe attempts to connect to the network, divert it to 'Network 2'. Otherwise it just says failed to connect.

It might be possible, but I suspect both internet connections would need to go through a router, so that your PC is connected to both via a single network connection. Static routes may help, if you know any destination IP addresses.

Then....I don't know....the only other thing I can imagine is Static routes, but you need to know destination IP addresses. I'm guessing the PC uses the Uni connection as the preferred connection regardless if the 3G is connected?

Is the 3G the "3" USB based offering?

Indeed one way of doing it would be static routes, when you connect with the 3G connection do you get a static IP address visible to yourself tho?.

Or at least a static default gateway on the 3G card.

Assuming you did you could potentially do the following. Once you know what you are connecting to on steam... (i'm assuming there is a web or IP address range associated with it that with research could be established)

You would do something like start>run>cmd
route add -p [steam.com] netmask 255.255.255.0 [3G default gateway address range]

Re: Two networks, how do I get Steam to connect through only one?

I've noticed something, although I can connect to two networks, only one can connect to the internet at once, though I can change which one this is. So for the time being I might just do that whenever I want to play a game.

And I'm connecting through A T-Mobile MDA Vario III which has hdspa or something.

Re: Two networks, how do I get Steam to connect through only one?

Its because when you have two network cards you should only have 1 default gateway. Thats the whole point of one being default, You can move which one you access the internet through by just changing the default gateway.

Its not easy to tell you exactly when you need to do as its hard to tell what your actual IP's are and i've got no interest in finding out exactly what steam's IPs are
