I dont beleive either offers any greater EMI protection than the other - Cat5/6 are usually unshielded twisted pair cables anyway, Cat6 can transmit data at higher speeds though.

i always suggest shielded when the cables got others with it.
yes thanks , i will go with the shielded cat5 cable it only about an extra £15.00 more for a reel and i could even use it for a telephone cable which i need to run with it.

Though to be honest unless you're running some serious length I doubt you'd notice much real-world differance...
Shielding isn't really an issue around a normal house. Its designed for business use where you may come across much higher EMI.
That said, if the cost isn't huge, go with it
The difference between CAT5 & 6 was surprisingly small last time I checked. Go with 6 if this is still the case![]()
