Can someone reccomend me a wireless card/adaptor?

I need a new wireless card or wireless adaptor for my desktop as my current card just cant hack it anymore. I was going to be buying one for my new build anyway but Im rapidly getting fed up (its now decided to only work at 11mbps!!!) so I cant wait that long anymore.
Anyway, Im looking to spend aorund 30 pounds but Id go as far as 40 maybe a little higher if it was really worth it. To be a little more specific, Im really only interested in something that can go as high as 300mbps. Range isnt that important as Im pretty close to my router, but obviously the higher the better. Ill most likely be buying from Scan (although im open to alternatives), so if someone could reccomend me something out of their range, that would be most helpful.
    Thanks

What is your router? You'll be best matching brands and types with the router to get best performance. But if your router isn't a super mega MIMO draft-N monster then spending £40 on a wireless NIC won't make any difference.

I limit my wireless card to 11mbps to get the best connection quality, rather than the speed going up and down. And if I'm doing any major transfers then I find a cable.

Well I cant connect directly to my router as the connection is shared (I share a house with 3 other people) and I dont really want cables trailing all over my floor.
As for what router it is, its a BeBox which I think is a rebranded thomson speed touch of some variety.

I've got the "Edimax EW-7728In 802.11n *Draft"n" v2.0* 300Mbps wireless PCI card" from Scan LN19259 £31.48 and it's been rock solid under XP and Vista.

I also got part LN19383 £13 to relocate the antennas to a shelf above the PC.

Unfortunately I live in a rented student house, so if I want any hope of seeing my deposit again I cant go tacking things in to walls etc (yes my landlord is that fussy).

Has anyone got/used a 300 mbps usb wifi adaptor, if so how do they compare to a pci wifi card?

Ok ok, I give in, Ill try it your way Its not like I havent got a million and one cat5 cables lying around anyway. Now all I have to do is go on a covert mission to recover the router from my housemates room, he seems to have made off with it in order to plug it inot his 360!

Looks like it's only G standard so there's no point in spending £30 on a wifi adapter. Edimax EW-7128G 54Mbps Wireless PCI Card has done me proud few a good while now.

As for cables, if you've got a carpet with underlay then you should be able to sneak them round the edge with no visible mess or damage. Careful on the carpet grippers though...

I got this Edimax one next door, it's alright but it still can't connect to wireless networks that arent broadcasting their ssid. My Linksys WMP54G works perfectly so it's best to get a good branded one. Why would you want to hide your ssid? then no one can see it appear in the wireless networks list. Once the connections set up on Windows you can hide it and it still connects automatically while hidden. Thats one feature you may not care about or might want to have.

Well our SSID is actually hidden, Im not too sure of the exact reasons, but it had to do with one of my housemates not being able to connect to the network when it was passworded. Have to keep it hidden though, as we live in a pretty studenty area of leeds and an unprotected network would be piggybacked into annihilation by our neighbours, damn students!!
    So not the edimax then?

you do realise there are hundreds of programs that can detect and connect to hidden ssid networks? right?

nah if its hidden then dont go edimax, and like ultramagnus said even when its hidden mine was passworded and protected.

but yea i wouldnt risk your chances on that edimax if your ssid is hidden. my linksys one detects it fine.
