    Serious problem with virgin broadband

Seems theres a ton of these threads, but can't see any with the problem I have...

Just for info, my cable connection connects to my Terayon (like 6 years old) modem, then into my new linksys wrt54gs router then onto my PCs, k.

For the past month or so my cable connection has been randomly disconnecting, for example I can be browsing a web page, click on a link and the page will just time out then afew seconds later the cable light on the modem will turn off for 2-3 seconds then come back on. This can happen once a hour or every few minutes it's totally random. It also happens when I'm playing online games, the game will freeze up then cable will go out and back on.

But not only this I'm also (recently) started to get huge lag spikes, that last afew seconds and then clear up.

I'm still getting my expected 4.5meg download speed (when the connection actually stays stable enough to do a test) but the constant disconnects are driving me mad.

Tried ringing the virgin helpline (1906 212 1111) but never even get a answer... dunno what the hell kinda service that is.

Any advice? seriously thinking about switching ISP.

it could be a modem fault or even a dodgy line, you really need to call them or email them there is nothing more you can do.

Finally got through to the helpline.. after about 2 hours of trying and 21 call attempts (Pretty stupid imo).

Got the usual "no faults detected in your area", but they are sending out a tech guy to look at my line/modem and did refund the call cost, so guess we'll see.

I think it will be the modem.
