Router issues

Hey everyone, I play Warcraft III and we just got dsl a month ago so I was all excited, I could finally host games. Well my router doesnt seem to want to let me. When I do host games, noone can join. It seems like the router rejects their connection. It is an ARESCOM 'NetDsl 1000' and I'm waiting for a reply from customer service, but in the meantime I thought you guys might have an idea or two. Goto the configuration page for your router, find the option for port forwarding.

Forward port 6112 in your router to your local machine ip address.

What SarG said ... basically when you are hosting a network service, your PC is acting as server and therefore needs to be able to receive packets as if it was directly connected to the internet.

... this means you need Port forwarding i.e. your router/firewall needs to be told that when it receives packets on a particular port (in this case 6112 ?) these need to be re-directed directly to your LOCAL IP address of your PC - i.e. the private address of your PC (e.g. 192.168.0.x)

Yeah I'm having trouble finding where I can set port forwarding. It is a cheap router that we got free because we signed for a year. I'm almost positive I looked everywhere but I'll keep looking. Is it possible that the router doesn't allow it? WOW I just found out I got off of school today. I LOVE YOU GUYS!! I LOVE EVERYONE. OK now I got time to figure this out. Thanks everyone.

STILL can't get it. First off I'd like to thank you guys you are really awesome and I cant tell you how much I appreciate it. Second I just typed a long description of what all my settings look like but as I was messing with them it stopped working and I lost my stuff. I'll try to get it out again.

Ok under network connections I have LAN1 LAN2 and Network Bridge.

Under network bridge properties there are properties for both 'client for microsoft networks' and 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)


Under Internet Protocol Properties there are 3 things
obtain ip address automatically, obtain DNS server automatically, and Automatic private IP address.

Under advanced they have IP settings (including IP address and Default gateways and 'automatic metric') , DNS , WINS , and Options tabs.

Under options there is TCP/IP filtering which is enabled, but it is permit all on all three settings: TCP Ports, UDP Ports, IP protocols.

ahhhh your looking under network properties there

you need your router config page up

in your browser type in what ever ip is assigned to your router

e.g. http://192.168.0.1 or http://10.0.0.1

then look for either port forwarding or virtual server

actually just yesterday i realized that and i found out where it is its called port mapping i believe, but i put on a setting which would do it, and then it wouldnt work so i deleted it. Now my internet dont work. So i unplugged the router to reset it hopefully and now the WAN doesnt work. I'm not at home so i cant give details...im at school now otherwise i couldnt post...once i get more info i'll post!! thanks guys =)

Finally got it. You guys are awesome!!! The techy at our ISP helped me get the connection working, and i mentioned what I was trying to do and he said I have to have a static IP, which he helped me set up. *w00t* Thanks again!!!
