    ADSL1000 with 2 Computers...

Hey, I was looking at Nildram services and found a rather fetching deal with ADSL broadband. Im On BTopenworld Home 500ADSL and now my family want to get a new computer for downstairs and use the internet.

Now because I like my internet fast, Ive suggested upgrading to the Nildram. Now Im a noob when it comes to splitting the line. Will Nildram be sending the stuff to do this? Or do I need to go out and get sepperate cables?

Also, what do I need to create a LAN network for quick 1v1 deathmatch games

    cheers

The easiest way is by using a router. Most routers have a four port switch built in (so there's your 1on1 lan sorted).

Check with Nildram to see if they can supply a router as part of the bundle - most ISP's are keen to supply hardware.

If you do decide to buy your own router, you'll need one with a built in ADSL modem.

You could also achieve the same results with a single cross over cable between the PC's and the usual USB frog modem hanging off either PC, the drawbacks to this are that the machine with the modem will need to be on for the other machine to access the net and should you wish to add a third or fourth PC, you'll be needing a hub/switch.

    Hi Paradidle,

You might want to check out Plusnet too as they're cheaper than Nildram! I am hoping to upgrade to a 1Mb connection myself, starting from £32.99 per month!

ps I don't know if allowed to do this kind of plugging for Plusnet, but I have very good experiences with them..

Tbh there isn't really any noticable difference in speed. It's only worth it if you download a lot of very large files. Browsing the net and playing games feels the same even shared really.

If you can afford the increase in price (it's not that much) take a look at Eclipse. They are ranked as the fastest ADSL provider in the UK. I'm using their 1Mbps service and it' fast and very reliable.
