[Sigh] Should have seen this coming....

Ok, so iv been happy up until now with my Orange Broadband, it was only costing me £5 and speed/reliability had been ace. Customer services had always been stupid, but the number was free from my orange phone. So, 13 months of great service.......

then I get an email....telling me that I will experience 1 days outage during and 'upgrade' to give me better/more stable speeds......

Prior to update I got a steady/stable/constant 6.8mb service....no dropouts, disconnects or any issues at all.
Now after 'improvements' I get disconnects every couple of hours, and speed seems to be stuck at 2.2mb.

So i try to call Orange...which now for broadband is not free at all - its 7p a min. For this price I get the privilege of speaking to an Indian call centre, that kindly informs me that my line should only get a maximum of 1mb...so the 6.8mb I had previously is merely my router 'misreading' the net speed, and my current 2.2mb is therefore a speed increase and have a nice day now.
So of course the actual real time 6.8mb transfer speeds I had were all in my head eh?

I know I should have seen it coming, it just annoys me that I had great speed and theyve cocked it up

You've been very lucky with what you've had now it sucks, worst way it could happen.

£5 won't get you a lot of broadband anywhere else tho

Re: [Sigh] Should have seen this coming....

yup i know - was well happy with the way it was - i couldnt get this indian woman I had to speak to to understand it was fine before and now its borked.....and that my line speed is not 1mb...even bt reckon 5mb+, so Orange seem to be pulling numbers out of their ass to cover up the fact theyve knackered my internet...

for £5 a month I basically cant move anywhere else, so Im gonna sit out the remainder of my mobile contract, cancel the lot and go pay as you go and get a decent ISP.

    Bloody french telecom.

Re: [Sigh] Should have seen this coming....

If you get escalated to second line support, you may have better luck. The people that you speak to on the phone first are to remove those people who haven't worked out which cable went where...

Re: [Sigh] Should have seen this coming....

Gah, after another telephone call to complain, my net speed is now 6.1mb BUT my upload has dropped from 450kbs (before 'line upgrade') to a pitiful 32kbs.....meaning I cant finish a round of BF2 without getting disconnected

Theyre a flaming farse this lot, an absolute shambles!

Re: [Sigh] Should have seen this coming....

Im not sure what equipment Orange use in the exchange but from personal experience in the Exchagne the LLU equipment is usually further away that the original BT equipment and can add over 100 metres in some cases. This might not sound much but every extra bit of cable screws the speed.

In all honesty though you should be losing that much.

I`ve just gone from BT ipstream fixed 1 meg connection onto Sky`s LLU offering and my speeds have gone from 1024/256 to 2160/768. When I reboot the router it syncs up and 28**/768
