    Re: Terrible Download Speeds!!! BT

Well, I've called them and spoke to someone in India. They have passed the ticket to someone in the line fault department, whos going to ring me today or tomorrow.......I hope!!!

Anyhting I can do or anything I need to ask them to do?

I'm a going to argue tonight about paying all this money for dial up speed! Its been like this for quite a while now.

Are you doing these tests from the engineer socket behind the face plate on a BT master socket? Re-run the speedtest with the adsl modem plugged into it

That would rule out any internal wiring and you could mention that you have done this so they don't ask you about it.

Bascially everything internally connected to the face plate is your problem, the master socket itself and to the exchange is BT's problem, but if they come out and find it is internal wiring they can make you pay if an engineer needs to attend.

Its a brand new apartment, with telephones sockets in every bedroom and the lounge (4 in total). The hub is currently plugged into the socket in the bedroom. Are you suggesting I try the other sockets throughout the place?

I would think that the lounge socket would be the master. Its part of one of those massive things on the wall thats got 4 mains power sockets, satellite, FM, TV aerial and a telephone socket on.

This is what a BT master socket should look like: ADSL24 - Broadband ADSL, Bonded ADSL and Office services at fantastic prices
It should have some sort of BT logo on it.

There is a couple of good pictures on this page that would give you an idea of what I'm meaning by plugging into the test socket: http://www.accentuk.com/faqs/question/g)-why-is-my-connection-disconnecting-since-the-regrade%3F

I would have thought that you should have one of these being a new build.

Just to clarify that you are using filters on all devices attached to the phone sockets in the house? this includes answer machines, telephones faxes and burglar alarms (probably teaching my mum to suck eggs here but for clarity)

Obviously it could be a non standard installation and I wouldn't be much help with that as i'm no telephone techy

Yes, filters are being used on everything. Ive just taken off what I thought was the main socket and there is no test socket behind it! Ive got no idea which if any will have a test socket behind.

Can someone help me with DMT?? Im trying to use it, but when I connect to the hub it says that it cannot find a server on port 23? Any ideas.....

I've currently got the same issue:

IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2688 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 115 kbps

    woohoo, speeeeeeedy!

    bloody BT crappy lines..

BT traffice shape, even though you might be synching at 4000mb they will reduce through put for certain protocols / programmes. Its ****e as they dont mention this anywhere.

    Re: Terrible Download Speeds!!! BT

They don't traffic shape their speed test though and the OP is having throughput issues with that too.

Oh, and a 4000mb sync rate? I don't think so somehow

Port 23 is telnet so DMT is trying to telnet into the Homehub. Is there an option in the Homehub to enable telnet?

Not that I've seen. Although I have no idea what telnet is
