How many extensions can I have.....

Recently we had a wee bit bother with out Telewest/ Virgin Media phone line.

Basically we couldn't get incoming calls. An Engineer was booked for Friday, but since this appointment was booked the line has started working again.

I thought before this engineer came I would check all the extensions in the flat just to rule out a problem within the flat. So far I've found 3 extensions plus the master socket (there may be another, I've just not looked hard enough)

I thought the max number of extensions you could have were two - is this a correct assumption?

It should also be mentioned that the previous owner of the flat was a Telewest engineer! - so there is coax and telephone cable all over the place!

    Cheers!

It depends on the REN number of the line. A standard line usually has a REN of 4 and each piece of equipment usually has a REN of 1. Have a butchers at Maplin > Telephone Extension Booster ?

When it happens, just plug a phone into the master socket with no extensions.
If it then starts working, you know where the issue is

More extension shouldn't stop the line working for calls, although too many may cause the phones to stop ringing.
