DC / File Server / Printer Share

    HP ProLiant DL380 G4 - Rack - 2-way - 1 x Xeon 3.6 GHz - RAM 1 GB - SCSI - hot-swap 3.5"

    Was thiking of 4 x 72GB 15K SCSI drives RAID 5.

This will services about a 250 user AD but will only need to serve about 40 at any one time 25 to 30 via Terminal services on a couple of other servers (we will get to that later)

This is over £2,300 before I even get to Windows 2003 Server Lisencing!

Any advice on what I can do here. It just seems overkill on the price and I stil need to sort out either a decent server to host terminal services or 2 servers for share the load etc.

Also looking at the Dell 2950 Servers

With 2003 server and all the usual Dell add ons eg Shipping etc it comes to just over £2000 then I would need 35 Device CALS. I would call Dell but every time I get some one who either has no idea what I am on about or can't really comunicate in English very well.

when i comes to server hardware your not paying for the hardware as such your paying for the fact that it won't break easy and if it does there be an engineer there sharpish

Dell just did me a fantastic deal. Dell PE2950 III @ £2,100 inc VAT and del for a Xeon E5320, 4 x 146GB 15k SAS RAID 5, 2GB Ram, Windows 2003 server with 40 Device CALs, Rails, Redundant PSU, 3yr NBD cover.

Perfect for a DC/ AD / File server.

Just to add the telephone manner of my account manager is very very poor and he is in the UK! Made 2 mistakes on the order as well, twice he put 2003 web edition and not standard as I requested

If you want another account manager to go to I've got one :-)

He did a brilliant deal on a PE2900 only just last week.

Paid the day of the order and it is still saying

Your order is currently being processed for release to the factory floor.

Once payment is received / confirmed, your order will be released for production.

If this doesn't go through soon I am going to make a formal complaint as my "account manager" doesn't seem to know what the hell he is doing. I am only ordering 1 server and he can't even get that right!

Just complain anyway and see if you can get some more money off, worth a try.

Don't trust the Dell tracking (if its a dell you've ordered) its normally inaccurate.

Dell servers are usually out the door a couple of days after ordering...usually :-)
