BT Router

Got a BT Ethernet Router at work sitting here. I can't access it to change the setup (ie setup IP Forwarding etc.) I know it is 'locked down' by BT, is there any way of changing this? Or is this infringing on the policy of this forum? If so, ignore this bit

The only other option is to get a decent router. Any suggestions?

I gought one of these from ebay! Fantastic router m8.

Mine too was locked down like yours, what you have to do is update the firmware. As these are actually rebadged efficient networks 5861 routers, go to www.efficient.com and download the latest firmware AND the router config tools.

Once you have done this you need a terminal cable to connect the port on the back of the router to your pcs serial port, you can then use the config software to upload the new firmware.

Make sure you keep those things well ventilated.....

They're well known for overheating and blowing up. The company I support uses them, and at least once a month BT have to go out to replace one.

Mine has been running nearly 24/7 for 2 years and I have never had any problems. Although I hear you Jiff on the heat thing... I cut a blowhole in the top of my server and put the router on top using spacers to lift it up an inch, now it runs super cool!
