    Network design, costing and implimentation cost

    First of all... yes I know its implementation

    I am interested if anyone here works for or privately runs a business that costs, designs, and fully implements networks for companies?

    If so I would really like to have a chat about how to cost such an endeavour

    I work for a networking company - we run a 20,000+ host network the spans 50+ sites across the UK. Drop me a PM with more information and I'll see if it's something I can help you with.

    I am looking at costing a total ground up rebuild minus the cost of the hardware (as this will be directly financed by the company)

    This will include migration of current user data, AD, GPO etc, re-cable (patch panels, wall sockets etc) , plan / arranging MPLS install, setup a backup schedule, spec new hardware, install new hardware, Terminal Service install to connect 3 sites, sort out their current mess of licensing and correctly licence their new software, AV install across the network, implement network policies such as internet usage, email usage, document full install to allow other IT workers to understand the network topology. I am installing a network that e.g. if I get run over and die anyone can walk into, read up on and work with it (morbid I know!)

    I feel the company I work for do not understand the worth of my current role (as I am the first person they have had to fill this position) so I want to have it costed for an external company to come and do what I have done so the directors can see that.....

    a) its not a small undertaking

    b) I have put many hours in and saved the X mount of cash

    c) So they stop telling me what to do when they have no idea what they are talking about.

    d) so they can see the worth to the company

    Its my last attempt at stamping my authority down to stop them hindering my work and also letting them know that if this is not done correctly and they keep wanting to cut corners at every step it will end up a disaster.

    This is not the first time I have taken a job like this on but its the first time I have had so many top level people standing in my way when I am trying to do I job they have asked me to do!
