Question Win reg setup/Bugs, Please Help.

    Hey all,

I have to register my windows today, so im gonna
install some isp software, connect up, and reg online.
However, my Windows (Xp Home Ed Service Pack 1)
is still the same windows as was installed of the
installation disk. When I get online i'll download
all the win updates then, but im just wondering in the
time im registering windows online, that any of the
latest bugs might get in eg Blaster etc..
The computer is one in the sig, on a 56k connection atm.

Ps I know there is a Windows firewall, but I can't seem
to find it anywhere in control pannel, Im guessing it only
activates when you install isp software ?

Also, I've borrowed a mag cover disk of a mate with ZoneAlarm
on it. Do you guys think I should install that for now ?
Tho should you have Firewalls on when registering windows ?

    Cheers, Dave.

why not register over the phone? Its a freephone number IIRC?

The firewall part of windows will be in the dialup properties - they'll be an an entry for the dial up under network neighbourhood. In the properties field will be an advcanced tab. Switch it on there.

Have you another machine you can get the updates from? the blaster patch is floppy disk sized, and I'd be tempted to get that installed before connecting to the net/

Cheers Jiff, All wen't well, just dl'ing the tone of updates needed now.

One Question: When I registerd windows online it just said "Searching for Internet Connection" then about 10 secs later it finished..
    Is this normal ?

    Cheers, Dave.
