go with what ever costs less. I doubt you will see a big difference between them unless you live miles from your exchange.

when comparing costs with VM - ask locally I have upt0 20MB & they are correct I am getting 50k - 1.5Mb so would be as well off with within a genuine 2Mb from anyone else.

The only thing stopping me moving to someone else is BT want a £150 reconnection fee....

you have the 20Mb deal and only get 1.5Mb? or do you have the 20Mb and are getting 1.5MB?

I'd say cable, seems more reliable and faster.

speardane I believe that the £150 BT connection fee is just them coming to your place
and connecting the wires back up to the master socket in your home. something you
could do yourself if you search on google. Then they can do a line test and see its already connected.

1.5MB/s download is about 12Mb which whilst it isn't 20Mb isn't too bad (probably higher than many people can get on ADSL).

Re: should i stay or should i go....

Oh right now I am getting 1.179 mbs ie 8% of the maximum see Broadband Speedtest on ZDNet UK

Before I was "upgraded" I had a nominal 4mbs service and often got just sub 4Mbs speeds . The only good news is that this was part of bundled deal, so I am only paying £1 pm extra to be ripped off.

I very much suggest that people check what the genuine local speed is before they sign-up with VM for 12 months.

the BT fee btw is not for the cabling - which I already have into the house but because we transferred the phone & number to NTL. I then got an ISDN line fitted by work (for on-call). It costs this much because I am moving from a "commercial" service to a "domestic" one. presumably in reality just changing some jumpers in an exchange somewhere.
