Connect airport Station to O2 Broadband Box

Hi, I have an O2 Broadband Router Box working wirelessly and wish to extend it's wireless coverage but connecting it wirelessly to an Airport Extreme Base/Remote Station.
I live rurally and to get the O2 router to receive a good reception I have had to place it in the attic,
therefore my wireless coverage is bad/poor on the ground floor of my house.
The router is setup has a DHCP, and the base station also is set up as DHCP. but the station is giving itself a fixed IP number, not sure were I am going wrong, any help would be appreciated.
my computer is a MAC OSX version 10.3.9
