Hi All
Thought I'd post here in the hope of getting some advice from pros that frequent this forum (I hope!)
If this is not the right place to ask then I do apologise.
Ok I have done Desktop Support as my day job for the past five years (phone and e-mail and travelling to places to give support/training) and to be honest I'm bored with doing it, particularly now as its becoming target rather than service quality driven. (how many jobs can you close in a shift etc.)
The networking bit has always interested me more than Windows anyway though I did (and still occasionally do) get a buzz when I crack a particularly difficult problem, but I digress.
All of the major vendors offer certification on their routers and other kit, in an ideal world where time and money were no object I'd study the lot but alas I neither have the time nor the money!!
I am inclined to go the Cisco route (no pun intended) as I understood it used to be the 'Gold Standard' is that still the case or if not, what is? (I note that a lot of service providers use Cisco and Juniper kit side by side)
I do have quite an in-depth knowledge of networking including Border Gateway Protocol but of course I want to get this validated as pieces of paper speak volumes in interviews.
Any advice gratefully received.
