Exclamation Upturn in Bugs Recently ?

    Hey all,

It seems recently like there has been a sudden rise in the number of new worms/viruses/attacks.. lately. I've just been watching the news and apparantly Mircosoft is expecting a large number of bug made attacks against it's web sites later today buy users infected with a mydoom variant.
What do you guys think is going on, with all these new bugs all coming one after another so quickly ? It's making winxp seem like a very unsafe os to use. Oww when will it end, or do you think this is just the start of a new wave of relentless barrage of attacks..? I hope not

    Cheers, A worried Dave..

Updated antivirus software and a bit of common sense protects you from about 99% of virus's these days.

indeed - the mydoom virus doesn't do anything new - it doesnt exploit any other "bugs" apart from daft people blindly opening any attachment they get.

    Moby is right.

Virus writers don't need to find bugs - they can just use the fact that 90% of computer users are STUPID!

At least MyDoom is gonna do something useful like DDOS SCO's website. Cant say I'll shed a tear for them to be honest

The problem is that it makes the entire open source community look bad. I think that sucks.

MS need to pull their finger out. That URL bug in IE was fixed yesterday, months after it was discovered. Shambolic.

Why do virus writers make the open source community look bad ?

imo - nothing makes it look bad, only MS for not fixing bugs they have known about for months.

When an organisation is unhappy with a competitor, they generally do not go around releasing worms that subsequently DDOS the competitor's website.

There are often comments on slashdot (normally by the tin foil hat brigade, but it is slowly becoming a more mainstream opinion) that virus's like myDoom are release by SCO to make the Open Source community look bad! I dont believe that, but there you go...

Agent - the scope is, it was probably a linux enthusiast that made the virus to attack SCO because of all the IP stuff going on right now.

Of course, SCO can in turn make the whole open source linux community look bad by playing the victim.

This virus is damaging in many ways.

Are there any viruses/trojans at the moment/in the future, that could take advantage of the in built remote-control assistance feature of windows xp?

The strange thing with this virus is that ive had 3 viruses sent to a pop3 account in the past week. Ive never had any to any of my pop3 accounts before. Surely this signals an increase in activity?
