Got a Netgear wireless router downstairs, two pcs upstairs, but only one long network cable. All I need is a hub/switch to extend the nework to the 'puters on the top floor right? Are there any problems networking, or should it be plug in and go?
Cheap suggestions on switches?

Either will do, but go with a switch if you can.

afaik, and i could be wrong, but the main difference between a switch and a hub is that a switch creates a connection between clients, whereas a hub broadcasts packets to everyone on the network (who then ignore them if they aren't addressed to them).
as for suggestions, i've used a couple of these before, and on scan that 8-port is the same price as the 5-port, so makes sense to get it
Hard to find a hub these days (but if anyone knows of a source, I need one for a specific application)

Thank you - a hub allows local network monitoring as all traffic appears on all ports - a switch doesn't!

yeah, thats why i searched with the "-switch" tag to try to filter a few of them out, but you've still got to check model numbers to confirm... maybe pop an ad in the Wanted section, the folks on hexus are infinitely more intelligent than those found on ebayHa - tried E bay - I don't think the sellers know what they are selling as nearly everything is advertised as a "hub switch"
