Question boost wifi for house to summerhouse

basically... we have a summerhouse at the bottom of our garden... around a quarter of an acre i guess?
it'd be nice to use my wifi seeing as i now have a laptop with wifi...
i don't really want to change routers seeing as it's not mine and its provided by sky and we're not whiling to risk getting banned by using a hacked firmware/user details trick on another router.
so basically what I'm asking is what usb adapter could i get that will boost my wifi connectivity like some kinda mini satalite dish or something? i saw some on youtube - that'd be ideal if so.

any ideas? links please to uk sites if i have to purchase anything.
    cheers people.

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

Re: boost wifi for house to summerhouse

you've also gotta be able to transmit that distance back..
you'd be better off getting a huge aeriel on each, if you can.. but of course, the laptops WiFi will be etched onto the PCB..

get a hi-gain aeriel for the router, you have the DG834GT don't you?
i got a nice aeriel for mine from ebay, £18 for 2 of them, delivered, around 90 - 95% signal at all times, 1 connected to the router and 1 connected to the desktop card on my PC, about 15m away and through 2 walls.

Re: boost wifi for house to summerhouse

you could get a USB aeriel with an aeriel that hangs off the side.. and replace that aeriel with a huge 1, won't be the best looking thing you'll ever see.. but it'll sure damn work!

Re: boost wifi for house to summerhouse

If you have an armoured power cable going to the summerhouse, perhaps Homeplug ethernet converters might work. If it has its own fuse/"segment"/whateveritiscalled, then that might make it not work though.
