    Hosted Exchange services?

Ok, I want to be able to keep myself up to date across all devices so would like to try a hosted exchange service.

    A few questions:

    1) Who is good?
    2) Can I still use my original email address?
    3) Can I sync my calender with lots of different apps, including giving my wife access to it?
    4) Will it sync sent messages from different devices?
    5) Will I be able to use push email with it on my Vario 3?

Lots of questions, some probably silly or obvious but I would appreciate your help!

    Re: Hosted Exchange services?

    1) I use SherWeb - Homepage - €7 pcm. 1&1 are supposed to be good as well.
    2) You could forward incoming email to your hosted account; or some HE providers will collect email from your accounts for you (I think 1&1 do this). I registered a new domain and set a forward on my old address.
    3) With any that support synchronisation with an Exchange Server, I guess - they give you a copy of Outlook 2007 (via download). As to access for your wife, I think she might need an account as well. Another option, though, is they give you 100MB of Sharepoint allowance per user - you might be able to use that to put up a calendar that she can access.
    4) Yep; synchs with my PC at home and with my HTC Touch Dual fine (and any Windows Mobile 6 device - 5's a bit more clunky). Can also synch with Nokia E-Series phones as long as you have the Exchange client installed - Nokia - Mail for Exchange - Mobile email - Mobile software - Products ).
    5) Hell, yes, should be fine. Vario III's a WM6 device (TyTN II), might as well be made for it. Well, thinking about it, it IS made for it.

Other info: Sherweb use a highly paranoid Barracuda anti-spam system. Easy to get stuff out of quarantine via their web interface, and when you whitelist a sender, they don't get blocked again. Images in emails aren't dl'ed by default, so your data allowance doesn't get burned up. And so far, reliable as a brick.

    Re: Hosted Exchange services?

    I use these people:
Cortado. The Business Class of Mobile Services

with their windows mobile services. if you buy in USD v cheap too.

2, if you pay extra, i've just got a forward, my main mail gets so much spam.

3, anything that supports exchange, so not much via the protocol really, but web access, and outloook, allow other apps to interop. A friend of mine from work only arranges pubs via outlook meeting arangment now, sad geeks indeed.

    4, yes

5, yes. Batterylife will fly down thou.

    Re: Hosted Exchange services?

    Thanks for all of that.

If I already have a domain registered (I use it for my email at the moment on my ISP's service) could I transfer that over without too many problems? (Missing emails etc?)

Or there's always emoze Free Push email, mobile email software for mobile devices. . Just looking at the site makes me shudder a bit though.

edit: Sherweb let you use your own domain if you already own one. Just set the MX records with your DNS provider appropriately; see SherWeb - Changing your MX record to point to SherWeb for Exchange 2007

    Re: Hosted Exchange services?

Just a question for people using sherweb.

I signed up for an account but have had trouble setting it up.

My Email is now back at its old supplier and I have found the settings for changing the MX addresses on their control panel. Do I have to get my host to set up an "A" record? Can I just adjust the MX address and then manually set it up as in the instructions from sherweb?

    Re: Hosted Exchange services?

You should just be able to set the MX records to Sherweb's Barracudas at spam1.ihostexchange.net and spam2.ihostexchange.net, as per SherWeb - Changing your MX records to point to SherWeb for Exchange 2007. Bear in mind that these will take a little while to propagate around the Intarweb - such are the joys of DNS... Pay attention to SherWeb - How to edit your domain type on Exchange 2007. for instructions on setting your domain type. As long as you've set up your exchange mailbox properly as well, that should be it.
