using wireless router as wireless access point
hi guys - just moved into a new flat that doesn't have a phone socket anywhere near where the computer is. So decided it was time to use my router's wireless capabilities. It worked fine for my laptop but my desktop did not have a wireless NIC.
A mate from work had a wireless router going cheap (speedtouch 7G) so I thought I'd see if I could use it as an access point, connected to my PC via one of the local LAN ports and wirelessly to my main router.
Does this sound plausible? Anyone gone through setting up a similar thing? At the moment I have no idea how to set it up, especially since it seems pretty hard to configure anything manually on these damn speedtouch routers :)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..
Thanks,
Tiago
Re: using wireless router as wireless access point
Ah; your problem is that you're not trying to use it as an access point (and some routers do support that - currently using a Belkin Cable/DSL router in that role) but as a wireless gateway like the Linksys.com – Products/Wireless/Basic Networking/Bridges/WET54G. That probably won't work.
