Looks like a good idea, I can imagine that all the geeks' power sockets in the future will be like this!
If I wasn't going to rip up my floors anyway and install new floor boards (ones without large gaps between them) I would just install a bunch of these and be done with it.
When i do the flooring I'll be able to run as many lengths of Cat5e as I want.
i do love the idea though. Might see what my dad things of them when they are eventually released.
Well I would imagine its success will come down to the price in the end... if it costs more than around £10-15 per socket then it will probably fail...
I'm not entirely sure how this technology works... Does there have to be a switch or something built into the circuit somewhere? Or does will this just do A to B and not allow multiple connections?
think of it like wireless.
It creates a mesh network containing all the sockets in the power circuit. According to the acticle on Digital Life, there is a maximum of 32 dual gang sockets per network, but you can connect multiple networks though a switch. I don't know how they are configured, but they are only in beta at the moment so we will see in time.
If they can get contracts with some of the larger home builders, then I think they will do well, and could easily become a standard in the UK. Also if they got a distribution with the likes of B&Q they would also do well. B&Q seem to be very keen on new technologies atm.
