Given how rare it'll be for the network card to be the bottleneck in your application, it seems to be a waste. I think the biggest reason to do this is if you've running file sharing in the background whilst playing online and you'd want to manage the connection without having to worry about it much.
It's a bit like Dell offering "super fast 800MHz" memory upgrades when you can't overclock the processors...
