    Dead Modem

I have been enjoying uniterrupted boradband for a few years now, supplied by BT. It is ADSL.
Never had to even re-start my modem/router during that time.

However on Sunday at about noon, I lost the connection. Couldn't get it back.
I am using a Draytek Vigor 2600We (now end of life product).

Filter is a faceplate type on the master socket into the house.
Changed the filter and no joy. Connected the mopdem/router directly to the master socket and no joy.

Phoned BT ( a call centre in Asia) and they advised that they did a line test and the line is fine and there must be something wrong with my modem/router.

Now it is a few years old (about 5 I think, maybe more) and I have never had any issues with it.
I will try and test router at a friends place to see if it is the router but anyone ever had a Draytek "die"?

Also, how can I tell as the 4 port ethernet switch seems to be working fine. i am using a special UK firmware for the product released by Draytek.

Any help or advice gratefully received.

Any informaqtion when you log into the router? (can you log into the router?) Last resort my be a reset to factory settings and reconfigure (a bit of a PITA, which is why I suggest it as last resort)

    Re: Dead Modem

I can log into the router - the online status just says "INITIALIZING"

    LAN status is okay

I tried the factory re-set as well - no joy. This reset only removes the user settings which I then re-entered only for the Broadband set-up.

Auto-detec broadband settings just goes on without detecting anything

    Re: Dead Modem

Scraping the barrel now, but you could try reflashing the router with the most recent firmware release - available from the Draytek website.

    Re: Dead Modem

Just tried a borrowed Netgear router and it works. So sounds like the Draytek has given up the ghost.....pity as it worked flawlessly for many ,many years

    Re: Dead Modem

Going to replace with another Draytek possibly 2820vn unless someone can think of something better?

Used mainly for routing broadband connection (cunningly ) - wired to my desktop and wireless for my laptop around the house. Of course the firewall is a must. Otherwise, don't really use its other features such as VPNs etc.

Using BTs top package for home users

Think I'll try the VOIP thing.
