Never needed a site like this before, but what is really odd is today a client called and asked if a website was running or not. I simply pointed them to this site and said this will tell you 100% if it is up or not.

ps

if its your ISPs DNS it could be down for a lot of people and up for everyone else.

Useful... except that I just went to try it for a test and pointed it at my WoW guild site (which is up, and I tested to be sure) and it says the site is down.

If you're wanting testing from multiple geographical locations (as I like to do when a site I run is inaccesible) I recommend Alertra Website Monitoring Service

There are a couple of problems though.

Depending how that site works. If its just checking the connection from one place then it could be that its down for that one place and up for other ppl or vice versa.
