    3com virtual server problem!

Has anyone come across a problem creating virtual servers on a 3com ADSL wireless router - 3CRWDR100A?

I try and create a new one, but it won't save the virtual server. I'm using the latest firmware too...

Strangely enough, it worked fine when I first bought the router but it's developed fairly recently and obviously without virtual servers, p2p won't work. Changing the firmware hasn't helped...

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your problem but this just tweaked my curiosity (virtual servers on a ADSL router?)

"Virtual server capability enables incoming access to specified servers handling FTP, web, e-mail and other traffic"

    That's just port forwarding, yes?!?

Exactly mate. I guess 'virtual server' is just 3com's fancy name for port forwarding!

Make a note of your settings (user, password, ADSL details etc.), reset router to defaults, set up again, then try?

Good call, but already tried that. After complete reset to factory defaults, still won't let me create a virtual server. Thanks anyway.

Ok, you seem to have covered most of your bases .. so if you're following this process how far do you get?

    Re: 3com virtual server problem!

Following that process, I get right to the end but when I click 'Apply' the settings I input disappear....it's really frustrating. Especially seeing as it actually used to work once upon a time.

Just to make sure I'm not being a complete noob - for the virtual server I use my PC's IP address and the same port number for the LAN and Public ports, tick enable then click 'apply'. Yey or ney?!

    Yep, that's right.
These are just long shots now but other things to try are: see if your router has a telnet interface, try using a different browser to connect to the admin pages.. and finally, try reverting to an older version of the firmware.

    Re: 3com virtual server problem!

    You got it!

Switching back to IE7 has sorted it out! I got fed up of how slow IE was so started using Firefox a few months back. I'm quite surprised that Firefox creates problems like this...or is it more like my router's firmware doesn't support Firefox...

Anyway, thanks a bunch Viper81! I'd 'thank' you, but I don't think I have enough posts yet! How many do I need before I can officially thank you?!

Edit: I guess its 25 posts - the thank user option has just appeared!

    Re: 3com virtual server problem!

    Happy to help

I find a lot of pages with badly coded javascript buttons go awry in Firefox. I guess you have to blame the websites/software as Firefox just uses whichever version of Java you have installed on your system.
