Can a broadband filter affect a wireless card?

The power in the house had to go off a short while ago.
Now my wireless card intermittently tries to connect to my hub, then goes off again a few seconds later.
I've tried everything I can think of, the only thing left is the broadband filter.
I can connect to the hub with a network cable, which a real pain.

Anyone have any idea if I'm right ?

As far as I am aware, it shouldn't do.

There will probably be the freak instance where it will, but I would pretty much rule it out.

Much, much, more likely to be something that has happened to your PC because of the power cut. Have you tried reinstalling the Wireless Card/Resetting the modem/router?

PC was switched off when the power went off, I've tried allsorts, still no luck

Have you got another microfilter you can try to see if that truly is the cause?

If not, I believe they aren't expensive to get hold of.

The microfilter's pupose is to separate out the baseband voice signal on the telephone line from the broadband signal that goes to the router. The router then converts that to a wireless (or wired) signal as required, so it is very unlikely that the filter is the cause of the problem.

More likely is that in the power cut the settings for the wirless side were lost - check those on the router.

That was my thought, but as the OP seems to have reduced it to the microfilter, I presumed he'd attempted all of the normal things.

Good point though, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

But the router is still working with a wired connection, so his BB side is OK. (I did wonder if the filter might be radiating something that was interfereing with the wireless signal - but I can't think of any scenario where that could happen - let alone a power failure.

Onvce the router settings have been confirmed (or reset) if that doesn't clear the problem, then there is an outside possibility tat the power outage reset some other device, and that is causing interference while it is waiting to be reset (for example an alarm clock that needs resetting and is sitting in a loop waiting) but that really is an outside possibility.

That was my train of thought too, though my only guess would have been the power cut was preceded or followed by a surge - if the Exchange was affected in the same manner, then the surge could conceivably work its way down the phone line, and the first thing it would hit is the Microfilter.

Only a guess though, as I'm not a telecoms engineer.
