    email problems

I cant recieve or send any emails. A box appears saying:

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'POP3.blueyonder.co.uk', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 5100, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

I know i have had this problem before but i have forgotten how to resolve it. Any ideas?

    Cheers

    Ste

Go to a command window and type one of the following (cant remember which one it is!) ipconfig /dnsflush or ipconfig /flushdns, then try. Also try setting the server name to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk not POP3, as BY use exim which is run on linux, which is case sensative! If all that fails, then do a tracert to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk and post here.

I thought that because his server appears to be set as 127.0.0.1 he is using some sort of local e-mail proxy or something like Hotmail Popper? But I am far from an expert, or even an intermediate .

You tried deselecting the "use outlook express plug in"?

Changing your pop settings in the OE accounts section would get you back up and running; (change the pop server from 127.0.0.1 to pop3.blueyonder.co.uk and the port to 110) However, SOMETHING has changed the settings - if it's not you, then some software has done it (usually antispam, sometimes antivirus).

What's essentially happening is that SOMETHING else is set to download the mail, then OE is set to pickup the downloaded mail from that SOMETHING.

Installed anything prior to this going wrong?

No, if you look at the error, OE is trying to pick the mail up locally (127.0.0.1).
It's not even leaving the LAN and going out to blueyonder.

Did the blueyonder support thing. Dad and me stayed up till 2 last night sorting it all out- didnt work, did it again still didnt work- i get up this morning and its fixed itself It seems i have lost a couple of days worth of emials though becuase we sent 4-5 test ones to my by account last night and i havnt recieved those. Maybe it was cables problem.

Thanks for the help guys. Appreciated
